Rabbit Care

If you're wondering how to take care of a

rabbit follow these instructions-

One Thing all Animals Need is Great TLC!!!!

  • An small slice of apple a day keeps the vet away
  • Do not over feed your rabbit
  • Clean cages at least twice a week
  • Once the rabbit is 6 months of age only give it 1/2 cup of food if it is a medium sized breed
  • Make sure it has fresh food and water every day
  • Try to trim the nails at least once a month
  • When it's hot out put a 20oz frozen water bottle in the rabbit's cage
  • Do not cover the rabbit's ears
  • If the bunny is struggling kneel on one knee
  • Do not pick a rabbit up by the ears or around the waist
  • Do not move a rabbit from place to place in the trunk

Food and water- Rabbits need fresh water and food everyday around the same time, when the rabbit is 6 months of age you should only feed the rabbit 1/2 a cup. NEVER OVER FEED YOUR RABBIT! Every other week or so you should try to clean out the food and water bowl. make sure you read the label of the food because it may be only for meat rabbits. I would recomend hutch #17.  Hutch #17 has protiens so your rabbit will maintain a healthy diet.

Handling- Try to hold your rabbit(s) every day and also talk to them in a soft voice. this will let the rabbit know that he/she is in no harm. if you are walking with the rabbit it is best to hold it the the "football hold" this is when you put the rabbit under your arm so its nose is sticking out, this is good for if a dog comes up to you, you can shoo the dog away. If the rabbit struggles drop to one knee incase it jumps. If the rabbit bites you, either flick it on the nose while saying NO stirnly or blow up the nose then say No.

Hutch- The hutch (cage) should be a good size for your rabbit. It should not be to small and it should not be too big, the cage should also have a woden box or something they can hide inside, also it should have a  board they can sit on. if the rabbit has nothing to sit on besides the wire his/her stops (feet) will get sore. Try to get a hutch with a wire bottom and then a tray with shavings and not just shavings (Without wire) because the rabbits feet will get yellow.
